The Lord is my Banner was the name of an altar Moses built. Ann Sprangler writes, "ancient banners were usually made out of wood or metal and shaped into various figures or emblems that could be fastened to a bare staff or long pole. ...they often glistened brightly in the sun so that they could be seen from far off. A banner ...planted on a high hill served as a rallying point ... or an announcement of a victory already won. ...banners aroused devotion to a nation, a cause, or a leader." The Women's Ministry of FACC believes that God has set His banner over us as His precious daugthers. He is devoted to us. Everyone can see it from far off. He has won us as His pure and spotless bride, and He's bragging. He's laid the table, made the meal, and He's waiting to show us off and spoil us with love overflowing every cup in the place. He is celebrating our beauty and the glory we bring Him. We strive to live under the banner and remind one another of our true identities and the beautiful responses of obedience that result from recognizing Love. Our watchwords for 2008 are intimacy and accountability.
The Sunday morning study invites siters who are not free to come on Friday nights, but who still crave meaningful, personal study. It's also a safer environment for many who are hesistant to commit to three hours in a home, until they build trust and comfort. BIG NOTE: You do NOT have to participate in Sunday mornings to participate in Friday nights. Obviously, many of us have teaching responsibilities or other Sunday study opportunities that more closely meet God's current callings on our lives, and some of us serve with other congregations. You also do NOT have to commit to the full year if you have an obligation or opportunity that will take you away for a few weeks or months. You may join or rejoin at any time. This is simply another way to extend our reach and deepen our resolve to engage and complete the material.
On the Last Friday of every month, we provide a safe, consistent place to pray about those things we won't put in the bulletin or before the entire body. Maybe we think an issue is too personal or too trivial, or we don't want it to be the only thing people ever ask us about at church, but that doesn't mean the issue doesn't need to be lifted with a trustworthy group. We're learning to pray beyond the immediate physical and emotional needs of the week or month, learning to pray scripture with purpose, and learning how prayer is a two-way conversation. These aren't "say it, then pray it" groups. These are an adventure in prayer that deepens and rewards the asking, and unites the askers. The groups are the same every month, so your girls will be waiting on YOU. |
